All young people, aged 8-26, who have volunteered or helped to deliver any of the hundreds of events, projects and activities linked to Year of Young People 2018 will be able to apply for a special one-off Year of Young People 2018 Participation Certificate. Young people will also be able to apply if they have contributed to the overall aims of the Year of Young People.

Standard Life Aberdeen are supporting the Year of Young People 2018 Participation Certificate, covering the printing, delivering and administration. Young Scot and Youth Scotland are helping the Scottish Government to manage the applications on behalf of the First Minister.

All young people receiving a Youth Scotland Hi5 Award, Dynamic Youth Award or Youth Achievement Award, in 2018, will automatically receive a certificate. Youth workers and others can also apply on behalf of a group of young people who will each receive a certificate.

Around 20,000 certificates are expected to be delivered to young people across Scotland.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:

“I have been so inspired hearing about the thousands of young people who have already been involved in the Year of Young People, from planning and delivering events, to working in their local communities.

“I am delighted to be able to formally recognise their efforts with these certificates. Each and every young person should be proud of the contribution they are making.”

Sandy Macdonald, Head of Sustainability at Standard Life Aberdeen said:

“We’ve worked hard at Standard Life Aberdeen to become the sort of place young people want to work and we’re lucky to benefit from all they bring to our organisation. We’re very pleased to support the Year of Young People and champion the brilliant efforts of young Scots in communities across the country. We hope the certificate will give them a lasting reminder of the value we place on their positive impact and if they’re volunteering for the first time, serve as encouragement to carry on in the future.”

Ian McLaughlan, Chief Executive of Youth Scotland said, “At Youth Scotland we are passionate advocates of recognising young people’s achievements through youth awards. In this amazing Year of Young People, we have already celebrated our own 50,000 recipient of a youth award and very much look forward to recognising even more with the Year of Young People 2018 Participation Certificate.”

Louise Macdonald, Chief Executive of Young Scot said, “For lots of young people, the Year of Young People will be their first time getting involved in their community and volunteering in Scotland. Thanks to the support of Standard Life Aberdeen, it’s wonderful that the each and everyone one of them will be recognised by the First Minister.”
