Volunteering Week 2017

Charles Bailey

The awesome Charles is our next volunteer we're highlighting for volunteers' week.

Charles was our very first volunteer in Glasgow's North-West Youth Bank. Over the past few years Charles has dedicated his time to develop his local YouthBank and his community. Charles showed great promise so much so he is now a member of staff with YoMo, supporting other young people to reach their full potential. Charles has made a great transition from volunteer to staff member stating that this transition enables him to better interact with the volunteers.

"To me, Volunteering is... a pathway for young people and everyone, it gives opportunities to learn new skills and broaden their experiences"

The wonderful Dylan is our next volunteer we're highlighting for volunteers' week- We've excluded the weekend dates ;)

Dylan's commitment and hard work is making huge impacts on his community and he values volunteering for how much of an impact it makes to young people's confidence and how it has the power to widens their minds & views.

Dylan is one of three YOMO volunteers currently planning to head to Belfast to develop an anti-sectarianism and hate crime training essential pack that they'll bring back to Glasgow to train up other young people! Amazing work...

Kieran O'Shea

Halfway through our celebration of Volunteers' Week and we're still just as excited as we were at the start to be sharing the talents of some of our Volunteers here at YOMO!

Today's committed and truly awesome volunteer is 17 year old Kieran! Kieran has helped develop YOMO and been a massive voice in how we empower young people to take the lead.
Kieran is a massive advocate for his community and encourages other young people to be involved in local youth groups, take on the challenges of building confidence and taking the lead, all by doing it himself!

For Kieran, volunteering is important so that young people understand that they don't need to be older to take the lead in the projects they participate in- hugely inspiring, thank you Kieran!

"To me, volunteering is growing in confidence and has shown me that young people can take the lead in organisations as much as the workers would."

To hear more inspiring thoughts from YOMO's Volunteers, stay tuned for our posts for this week and join in the conversation by sharing with us "To me, volunteering is..." using the hashtag #VolunteersWeek

Radek Dychalski

As part of our Volunteers Week, we're celeberating  21 year old Radek Dychalski from the North West of Glasgow, volunteering with Young Movers for over 1 year now.

Radek enjoys volunteering & working with other people to improve his local community- he's fully aware and motivated by how much volunteering prepares young people for the future, including prepping for employment.
A highlight of volunteering for Radek is being able to help people that approach YOMO for support with their projects and to help out other young people his age to achieve their goals!

"To me, volunteering is having opportunities to practice interview skills and develop group decision making"
